Yesterday’s Appointment with Dr. Verma

Nick had an appointment with Dr. Verma yesterday. I had a few questions for him.

first was the question about kidney stones. He passed another kidney stone on Saturday. The one that was analyzed earlier this year was 80% uric acid stone. I asked why nobody has ever tested his uric acid level. He said he knows why… Because it is extremely rare for someone to have uric acid stones. High uric acid levels are considered an old persons condition. He wasn’t convinced that the stone was actually 80% your uric acid. I brought up the fact that he’s on testosterone replacement therapy and it’s not that that may raise your acid levels. He said it’s easy to test we can just add it onto his bloodwork next month. I said he’s going to be at the hospital for a test soon, so if we could just put it in for a regular lab, we can have it drawn while we’re at the hospital so that will be done soon.

second is the question of calcium citrate, that is new endocrinologist, wants him to have more calcium in his diet and/or calcium citrate supplementation. Can that break up kidney stones? I gave them a tiny bit of calcium citrate any past stone. He didn’t feel that it would. It just helps prevent kidney stones. He did think it was a good idea for him to get an ultrasound of his kidney though. So that will be set up. He will need to go early in the morning for that since he swallows air and air in the intestines makes it so ultrasounds don’t work well. The air gets in the way the image.
