Switching from Prednisolone to Prednisone
Nick’s Prednisolone has been on backorder and I can no longer find it in any of the pharmacies near us, so his doctor (Dr. Fan) prescribed regular Prednisone. I spoke to the pharmacist about it. They’re similar, but Prednisone has to be converted to Prednisolone in the liver. Some people with liver damage lack the enzyme to convert. Nick’s liver has always tested fine, but I’ll stick around the house/him until I’m comfortable. I’ll also look into if one is better than another. I seem to remember back when Nick was very young and was going to Boston Children’s transplant department, they switched him from Prednisone to Prednisolone. I could be wrong though.
Oh, and the prescription was written up wrong. It says to take it every day. Nick has always gotten the Prednisolone every other day. Maybe Dr. Fan wasn’t in the day I called? IDK, but I wrote the correct directions on the package it came in, and on the bottle. I’ll message the doctor about it.
