I Called the PT About Nick’s Wheelchair

I called Wendy? Heather?, 857-409-8104, the PT about everything that’s wrong with Nick’s new wheelchair cushions.

I’m sending her pictures of him sitting in it yesterday morning. His posture was terrible.

I explained how this morning I put one of the older incorrect back molds on, along with an old Convaid cushion instead of the new configuration. Nick was happy as a clam, bouncing, etc. His legs were in near-perfect position. He did start to lean to the right at lunchtime.

She figured that since that back didn’t have as much support, he was probably getting tired by lunchtime and started to lean.

I did still have to scoot him, often.

She wants me to send a picture of Nick in the new configuration and a link to the Convaid cushion.

I’m going to have him sit on the Convaid cushion and the anti-thrust wedge from his car booster seat to see if that makes a difference in having to scoot him.

She says part of the purpose of custom cushions is for safety during transport, but didn’t know if he needed a custom seat. Just the back, and he can keep using the one he was using this morning, which doesn’t wrap around his trunk as much as the blue cushion he’s been using for years.

I asked her how long it would take to get a new cushion if he were to use a stock cushion. She didn’t think it would need to go through approval, and should only take a month.

I explained to her that Nick may be switched back to regular Medicare and MassHealth because of UMass/Harrrington not accepting CCA for PCP’s. She wasn’t aware of this.
