Called Dr. Fan about Prednisone RX Nick Started Yesterday

Dr. Fan isn’t in today. I spoke with a transplant coordinator.

I told her that the new medication bottle says to give Nick Prednisone every day. He’s always gotten Prednisolone every other day. The pharmacist said that it should be the same, unless he changed the therapy. I let her know that I have NOT given Nick a dose today. Am I supposed to? Is there a reason why he prescribed it for every day, or was that a mistake?

Also, his blood sugar didn’t go up as high as it usually does with the Prednisone. Should that be cause for concern? That he’s not converting the Prednisone to Prednisolone enough?

I also told her that the pharmacist ordered Prednisolone liquid at 10mg per 5ml, which could be easily measured to meet his old med. Can we just switch to that so I’m not having anxiety issues over this whole damn thing? Is there a good reason why he should stay on the Prednisone?

I forgot to mention that I called to have the Transplant Resident paged so that I could ask about this yesterday, and I never got a call back.
